Why We Breed Goldendoodles?
Breeding with Health, Temperament, and Trainability in Mind
Working as a Veterinary Technician for over 15 years, and raising 2 Autistic Boys laid the foundation for Costa's Curly Canines. As a Veterinary Technician, I have a deep love for animals and the benefits that man's best friend has to offer their human companions. While on the journey to getting a service dog for my son, I came to the realization of just how few options there were for families with special needs children to access such an amazing asset to their safety and well-being. That is also where my passion for training and Golden Doodles began as well!
Initially, my goal was to find the breed of dog I felt would make the best service dog for my son. I did months of extensive research and kept coming back to a Golden Doodle. Their personality, trainability, loyalty, and size (standards) all exceeded the needs for the perfect ASD service dog breed. Now don't get me wrong there are other breeds that can more than adequately do the job, but there is just something special about a Golden Doodle Service dog! Well after almost 2 years of looking for just the perfect pup, and learning as much as I could about training and service dog work, we welcomed our beautiful Dandelion into our home. I can not put into words just how much she changed our lives. She has taught me just about as much as I have taught her. Since then I have dedicated myself to learning as much as I can and building my skills as a trainer to be able to offer other ASD families a well-trained service dog of their own. One thing that became evident throughout my learning was that building a service dog starts before the puppies are even born. Genetics AND environment plays a fundamental role in the development of puppies during pregnancy and beyond. Also breeding the dogs ourselves gives us the chance from before they are even conceived to ensure that the puppies have everything they need to meet their full potential. Utilizing ENS (early neurostimulation), puppy culture, AVID dog, and aspects of numerous other training programs that only follow LIMA standards each puppy can develop into a smart well-rounded happy Dog! Those that stand out above the rest will be selected to continue on in service dog training eventually providing a much deserving family the service dog they need. The other amazing bundles of curly fluff will continue to be trained and socialized using all of the same techniques until the perfect fur-ever family is specially chosen for them! If you have read this far, the odds are good that you just might be one of those lucky families!
