FAQ
What can we expect when buying a dog from Costa's Curly Canines?
When purchasing a dog through Costa's Curly Canines you can expect to receive a healthy, well-socialized, highly trainable puppy that is ready to make a wonderful addition to your household. After collecting some information about your household, lifestyle, and what you are looking for in your new family member we help select the puppy that would be the perfect fit. If puppies are currently available this process can typically be done quite quickly so you can begin preparation for your new arrival.
What is included in the purchase of a Goldendoodle through Costa's Curly Canines?
We would love to talk with you personally about the extensive amount of things that go into and come with each of our Goldendoodle puppies. The following is not an inclusive list but will give you an understanding of what sets our program apart from many others you will come across. From day one each of our goldendoodles is worked with in a variety of ways utilizing aspects of multiple well knows proven protocols. We implement ESI, ENS, puppy culture, AVID dog, potty training, beginning crate training, beginning shaping basic obedience, and positive reinforcement which are always LEMA compliant. Puppies begin ENS and ESI at 3 days old and begin potty training on a grass potty tray from 3 weeks old. Beginning at 4 weeks they are introduced to the outside in a controlled environment where they begin to transfer the grass potty tray to going outside. From 3 weeks on every day, each puppy is introduced to new things, sounds, smells, obstacles, adventures, people, animals, etc., etc., etc. We have the benefit of living in Florida where thunderstorms are normal and frequent so we implement them often into our daily play and learning. When a storm is rolling in, that is a perfect time to go outside and play with our favorite toys and get some of our favorite treats! We introduce the vacuum in a fun way that typically has them chasing us and it around the house for playtime rather than running to another room in fear. We work on making it neutral later on in our training program, but to start we prefer it be something they think is fun and exciting rather than risk it being negative by working on no reaction at all. We go outside to potty and play in the rain, we listen to fireworks while we play chase and eat treats, and we get used to lots of unexpected loud noises in a way that means something exciting happened rather than something scary! Puppies go on weekly car rides, sometimes to other homes with healthy vaccinated dogs for socialization, sometimes to a controlled clean yard to explore, or even a fun new pool to swim in. Each puppy starts swimming lessons (swimming is pretty natural but we work on getting to an exit and being comfortable in the water) at 6 weeks old and typically swim twice per week if not more. We provide different toys, obstacles, and challenges daily to help them develop both physically and mentally. They are introduced to bathing, nail trimming, brushing, ear cleaning, and basic handling needed for grooming and medical care. They get age-appropriate vaccines and dewormings. preventatives, and medical exams while in our care, and is sent home with a health certificate. Each puppy is microchipped before leaving and goes home with a small bag of their current food, toy, blanket that smells like littermate and mom, various other items that we feel would be beneficial for each individual puppy, all relevant paperwork, health guarantee, health certificate, and lifetime support. If there is anything not listed here that you feel would be beneficial for your prospective puppy please reach out to us and we will do our best to accommodate. Again this is not an inclusive list but should give you an idea of what we put into each of our puppies to give them the very best start!
What do we require of prospective new owners?
We know that many rescues, and breeders have strict guidelines in place for prospective families looking to bring home one of their puppies. Although we do require your living situation to be in line with caring for and raising a large breed dog and meet their mental and physical needs we also understand that life happens and no one is perfect. We look at the big picture in regard to each of our potential families to make an informed decision as to if they would be a good fit. We all just want the best for these amazing Dogs and sometimes that might just be the not-so-perfect on-paper family. If you have any questions about a reason you may not qualify to purchase a dog through us, please do not hesitate to reach out, we are more than happy to discuss your specific situation.
Are there any guarantees or support offered after the purchase?
YES! All puppies come with their age-appropriate vaccines, dewormings, and are started on preventatives prior to purchase. They have an examination by our veterinarian and go home with a Health Certificate, a 1-year genetic health guarantee, and lifetime support! We want nothing but the absolute best for each and every puppy we breed not just while they are in our care, but for their lifetime!
Do you offer shipping or delivery services?
The health and well-being of our puppies are of the utmost importance to us, which is why we do not coordinate with any third-party shipping or delivery services. Although we are sure there are great companies out there, we have personally heard and known of too many tragic stories of puppies not being cared for during transit. Going to a new home is already inherently stressful for a puppy without adding in travel that often subjects puppies to extreme temperatures, lengthy times in small quarters where they often are covered in soil, and worse when they try to prevent excess mess by withholding food and water from young puppies in dire need of consistent hydration and nutrition. Puppy mills won't hesitate to use shipping services because if a puppy does tragically not survive transit they will just offer up a replacement to the buyer. We are very emotionally invested in each and every one of our puppies and to us, they are absolutely not replaceable. Each one of them deserves to transition into their new home as smoothly as possible. We do offer pickup from our in-home location, and pre-arranged local delivery, and are happy to make arrangements to meet you at a local airport if you would be accompanying the puppy during transit. If there is an alternative option you would like to discuss please reach out to us, however, our policy on third-party services remains firm.
What is a Guardian Home?
Guardian homes allow us to provide approved families with one of our Goldendoodles free of charge in exchange for providing a loving home for them while they are a part of our breeding program. After completion in our program (according to agreed upon contract) the dog is Spayed/Neutered at our cost, and full ownership is transferred to the guardian home. If this is something you are interested in please read our Guardian Home Requirements and contact us for any additional information or fill out the guardian home application to start the process!
